Phillipine Cabinet member invited to Bucks training camp

September 15th, 2007 by Brett Boyer · 1 Comment

The Bucks have extended a training camp invitation to Gen. Angelo Reyes, current Secretary of Energy in the Phillipines.

No, wait … wrong Reyes.  The hoops-playing Angelo Reyes is a 26 year old 6′8″, 220 lb member of the Puerto Rican national basketball team.  He attended Neosho County Junior College in Kansas and his professional experience includes a stint with the Miami Tropics of the ABA and the Carolina Giants of the Puerto Rican league.

According to Reyes’ bio on the Tropics website, he averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds in 06-07.  They describe him as “a magnet for rebounds,” so that’s pretty cool.

Apparently Reyes caught the Bucks’ eye at the FIBA Americas tournament, where he put up 15 points and got 15 rebounds in the bronze medal game against Brazil (a 111-107 win for Puerto Rico).  Reyes did have a nice FIBA tournament, averaging 10 ppg and 9.5 rpg on 53% shooting.

The Bucks have 13 players under contract and Reyes hopes to grab one of the two remaining spots.  Best of luck to him, but he sounds to me like a smaller version of Jared Reiner.
